What is health coaching?

If you’ve found yourself asking, ‘Why can’t I make the changes I know I need to make to feel better?’ or Why don’t they stick?’ then a health coach might be the answer you’re looking for.

The benefits of health coaching

Health coaching is a supportive partnership that helps women regain control of their health, fitness and overall wellbeing through personalised guidance, encouragement and practical strategies. Health coaches work with you to identify obstacles, break unhealthy habits and empower sustainable change—not just to manage symptoms, but to build a strong foundation for long-term health and wellbeing.

Coaches help you bridge the gap between knowing what to do (or what you should do) and achieving your desired change. They work with clients to understand and overcome physical, emotional, psychological and other barriers to health-related change.

As well as addressing obstacles and working with clients on lasting change, health coaches work with you and, where appropriate, your broader healthcare team to investigate and problem-solve the causes of ill health, pain or issues impacting your wellbeing. Working across the network of medical and allied health practitioners and taking a holistic view of the person, health coaches can be a valuable resource to help clients uncover new avenues for diagnosis and treatment to improve health and wellbeing. If you’re tired of doing the rounds of individual medical practitioners and health professionals, without improvement, our coaches may be able to help by using their extensive holistic knowledge and networks to get you feeling better.

Why do women work with a health coach?

Every woman who finds her way to EmpowerHer has her own story, challenges and aspirations. But there are a few common reasons why women decide to work with us:

Future-proof their health and wellbeing

The choices we make in midlife profoundly shape how we live in later years. Women work with EmpowerHer not only to feel better now, but to build the resilience, strength and habits that will carry them through their 60s, 70s and beyond.  It’s about setting higher standards for health—not just avoiding illness, but actively creating a fulfilling, vibrant future.

Overcome injury or illness

Sometimes the wake-up call is physical: shoulder, hip or joint pain that won’t go away despite pain-relief, cortisone injections, physiotherapy or stretching; or sometimes surgery or a health scare changes everything. Together, we explore recovery strategies that go beyond the medical basics—the interplay between emotional, psychological and/or physical causes of pain and how to address them—so you can return not just to ‘normal’ but to a stronger, pain-free, more capable version of yourself.

Optimise what’s already working

For those who train regularly, eat and sleep well, our coaching helps refine the details. We take what’s good and make it better: optimising healthspan and lifespan, exploring data-driven strategies, and unlocking performance potential in a way that supports both daily life and long-term goals.

Design their future and future self

Many women in midlife begin to realise they’ve spent decades meeting everyone else’s needs—and now it’s time to (re)discover their own. For some, that means seeking greater purpose and alignment; for others, it’s the quiet but urgent awareness that they want more from life than the version they’re currently living. Using our holistic future-self model, our coaching offers a safe space to reimagine and focus on what comes next—to design a future that feels vibrant, meaningful and fulfilling—and then provides the support and strategies to get there.
